The objectives of Activity 2 are to update the core specifications for eArchiving, and to initiate the specifications revision cycle. This includes setting up guidelines for the creation of new specifications, as well as reviewing and revising the current ones. There are three main tasks in this Activity:
A2.1 Specifications Technical Update
This task will comprise two different kinds of specification updates:
First specification type
The first update type concerns updating the specification for:
- Common Specification for Information Packages (CS IP);
- the profiles for Submission Information Packages (SIP);
- Archival Information Package (AIP) and;
- Dissemination Information Package (DIP) used in the sample software.
The SIP, AIP and DIP can be seen as a guide for what the eArchiving Building Block DSI should implement. The Common Specification for Information Packages is the core Information Package specification that all users should be using, and for which they create their own profiles in their own implementations.
Second specification type
The second update type concerns updating the Content Information Type specifications for SIARD, geo-spatial data and ERMS which are the specifications describing how to structure the three different content types of databases, geo-spatial data and records management.
A2.2 Specifications Textual Update
This task involves updating the different specifications documentation to publication version standard.
A2.3 Guidelines Development
In this task we will develop guidelines for the creation of new content information types and revision cycles. The guide for revision cycles will cover both the Information Package specification as well as Content Information Types.
